Jared James Abrahams, 19, has been arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Temcula, California, for threatening to publicize naked photos of Cassidy Wolf who is the current Miss Teen USA, according to an Inquisitr report on Thursday night.
Referred to as a case of a “sextortion photo” scam, Abrahams has reportedly victimized other women with his scam, also. The crimes he has been charged with are cybercrimes and extortion.
Shortly after Wolf was crowned Miss Teen USA in mid-August, the word of the sextortion photos was public, and the FBI worked on the investigation for several months while stating that they had a suspect in the criminal case. Though the FBI refused to give more details in the case, Wolf spoke about the criminal act in stating that someone had accessed her webcam and stole the pictures. She knew of the crime via an email which she received, telling her about the extortion being committed to keep the photos private.
Abraham has confessed to the FBI regarding the crime and said he used the scam on other women. It has been revealed that Abraham’s scam did not involve taking photos of the women off their computer, but somehow he used the women’s own webcams to take the pictures himself. He used malicious software to disguise his identity in order to capture nude photos or videos of his victims through a remote operation of cameras on their home computers without their consent, according to a police report.
According to the FBI, after sending his victims emails with the photos, Abrahams threatened to post the photos to their social media accounts if they didn’t send naked photos or engage in a Skype session with him – doing what he told them to do for five minutes.
