Barrington Middle School students could face charges for sexting

The alleged occurrence of sexting at a Homer Glen middle school is being investigated by the Will County Sheriff’s Office. Specifically, officials at Hadley Middle School in Homer Glen have received a number of reports regarding sexting among sixth graders. On Monday, school authorities informed the Will County sheriff’s office that a female student had been sent an inappropriate photograph of a graphic nature.

Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas asserts that the sexting occurrence involves a very small group of students. However, there may also be some students involved with the sexting who attend a neighboring school, Homer Junior High School.

As the sheriff’s office checks students’ phones to conduct their investigation, they are also considering criminal charges for the students responsible for the actions.

While informing parents of the incident via messages to parents, Kristen Schroeder – the principal – and Assistant Principal Candis Gasa said that they are taking the matter very seriously and treating it as a learning opportunity for their students. Counselors and social workers are to have an information session on the dangers of misusing technology – including sexting.

Hadley Middle School is located at 15731 South Bell Road in Homer Glen, Illinois.
