A so-called sexist gorilla was monkeying around too much with his alpha male pals, ignoring the ladies for the last 18 years at the Dallas Zoo. Now the zoo says they are having to ship “Patrick” out and send him to therapy, reports Fox News on Sept. 25.
The 430-pound ape is being moved to a facility in South Carolina, where he will receive some one-on-one attention for his “behavioral problems.” Zookeepers are sad to see him go, but his insistence at only being around male gorillas makes cohabitation impossible.
“It’s not like we haven’t tried, he’s been here for 18 years,” said Laurie Holloway, a spokesperson for the zoo.
It could be that Patrick has some “emotional” issues after his mother abandoned him at the Bronx Zoo in the mid 90s. Overall, zookeepers say Patrick is intelligent, and good-natured, except around female gorillas. He won’t tolerate them, and becomes aggressive.
Patrick also may be in mourning still over his male chum Jabari, an ape that Patrick was fond of, but who was shot to death after a violent escape back in 2004. Patrick has never been the same, the zoo says.
In place of the unsocial Patrick, the Dallas Zoo landed Zola, the Breakdancing Gorilla. Not too many girls these days are that impressed with a breakdancing guy anyway.
