The term “sexual slavery” can be defined as an immoral institution that forces subjugated humans to participate in various degrading sexual practices for both the pleasure and profit of a malevolent pimp or “lone-wolf” captor. A sex-slave may be dominated by one abuser or by multiple abusers.
In the murky and insidious world of sexual slavery, child prostitution is a form of sexual slavery / child abuse that financially benefits the child’s captor(s). The term is widely accepted as ‘the prostitution of prepubescent or pubescent children’. By legal definition the term usually refers to acts of prostitution that are committed by a minor who is under the age of their state’s sexual consent laws.
Let’s be clear, adults who prey on children are pedophiles and pedophiles infamously travel to foreign countries whose weak and ambiguous child protection laws attract their demented compulsions. These earthly “demons” spend tens of millions of dollars each year in poor and not-so-poor countries that allow [in shadows] the sinister exploitation of their countries most important natural resource …their children. “Child-sex-tours” is a foul and filthy global industry that leaves behind a reeking trail of disease, low self-esteem, poverty, broken lives and ultimately premature death.
For the majority of “decent” adults, cogitating on the plight of innocent children who are sold into sexual slavery and becoming soulless prostitutes isn’t at the forefront of their daily thoughts or dinner conversations.
Too surreal and too ugly of a topic to discuss over the office water cooler, it’s an issue that is rarely discussed in length or detail. But just because child prostitution isn’t often discussed doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It is without a doubt a poisonous industry that is evil and full of pain. It reeks of despair, depression, low self-esteem and premature death, and it is an industry that exists in darkened homes, hotels and alleys; in places that are closer to us than what we dare admit.
The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that approximately 3 million American kids under age 18 are involved in prostitution and they're often targeted by sexual predators.
"There are sexual predators out there specifically looking for vulnerable kids so that they can sell them," says Rachel Lloyd, founder of Girls Educational and Mentoring Services, in New York City, an advocacy group that provides services to sexually exploited girls from age 12 to 21.
In the dim and dreadful world of global child-sex-trafficking, tens of millions of girls and boys everyday are bought and sold by an assortment of uncaring, poor and ignorant parents for the mere price of “30 pieces of silver”. Payment rendered and accepted in exchange for children to have sex with adults, mostly men.
From the streets and dark alleys of Hong Kong, to London, England, to Dusseldorf, Germany to Atlanta, Georgia, children are being conceived by loveless parents and then later sold and exchanged for money and drugs as sexual commodities to a segment of society that is both “twisted” and evil, existing clandestinely behind firewalled internet websites and chat rooms.
Tragically, in addition to young children being forced to have sex with adults, there are millions of poor and desperate young adults worldwide that elect prostitution as a way to clothe and feed their self. They are the children of broken dreams, living in a world that is devoid of a parent’s love and protection. We see them but we don’t. They’re the kids who routinely live on the streets and hang out at train stations and at bus terminals.
Although they pretend to be mature, their eyes tell a different story. If you look closely, you’ll see a cry to be loved as children. Whether real or imagined, these teenagers believe that they have no other recourse but to sell their body as a means of surviving in what they perceive as being a hard, cruel and loveless world.
Some are even caught up in the hype of believing that if Kim Khadashian and Paris Hilton can make a sex video and make it big with lots of money, expensive homes and fast cars, why can’t they?
The grim reality is that the far majority of these young adults often come from abusive and broken homes and are devoid of love and high self-esteem, and they NEVER achieve wealth inner happiness.
Without ever being taught the meaning of “self-respect” and experiencing a parent(s) unconditional love, they’re destined to become “emotionally and spiritually numb” and more than likely will be physically and mentally abused by a spouse or lover.
As future parents most are not able to figure out how to end the cycle of violence they experienced and unwittingly continue their learned behavior, expressing their anger and frustration via physical and verbal attacks on their own children.
In closing reality sucks. It’s often NOT fair and the moral arc of the universe does NOT always bend at the elbow of justice. Just ask a runaway kid who is living on the streets. The question we decent and “Godly” people should ask our self is, “have we become too self-absorbed in our own wants and desires to even notice?” I hope and pray not.
As always the New Orleans Examiner is interested in what you think. Is child-sex-slaves more prevalent in our society than we imagine or dare to believe? Inquiring minds want to know what you think. Sound off.
If you know of a child that is being sexually abused, call the police. The telephone number to the National Runaway Hotline is: 800-662-4357
