'Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew': The trauma of childhood sexual abuse, Kari Ann packs her bags, episode 2

Episode Two of Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew touches on the trauma of childhood sexual abuse, with patients Kendra and Duncan opening up about their past.   Kari Ann, who also has a history of childhood sexual abuse, is overwhelmed and wants to leave the center.  

"Children who are sexually abused grow up feeling that their only value is sex."    Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew Episode Two description:

Dr. Drew and Jill begin treatment by trying to find out a little bit of the patients' backgrounds. Most sex addicts suffered severe emotional, physical or sexual abuse while they were growing up, and our patients are no different. Duncan and Kendra both reveal a little bit about their own past abuse during group. Outside of the therapy sessions, Phil finds himself developing a huge crush on Amber. Kari Ann is still demanding to go home. When she asks for her cell phone to get her manager's number in order to call him, she places the call on the house phone and starts texting on her cell phone, breaking rehab rules. When Selma asks her to stop texting, Kari Ann gets in a screaming fight with her, tells her manager to pick her up immediately, and begins packing to go home.

In the clip below, Dr. Drew is concerned that Kari Ann went to sleep immediately following group, and Jill checks up on her. Kari Ann insists she needs to leave the Pasadena Recovery Center to take care of business matters at home, while Jill and Dr. Drew think there may be more to it than that.

What is Child Abuse? Each state has its own definitions of child abuse and neglect, but there are minimum standards set by the Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act: Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation; or An act or failure to act that presents an imminent risk of serious harm. Emotional abuse, neglect, physical abuse and sexual abuse are all different forms of child abuse and each can be equally traumatic.
