A male human head was found Tuesday afternoon by professional dog walkers when their dogs veered off the trail and began playing with a bag until a head rolled out. They then called park rangers, who notified the LAPD.
The head was found off of Canyon Drive near where the popular Brush Canyon hiking trail begins, not far from the Hollywood Sign, the Los Angeles Times reported. The area has been blocked off as authorities search for other body parts.
The head is believed to possibly belong to an Armenian-American man in his 40’s with salt and pepper hair, the Los Angeles Times reported. There were no signs of decomposition, leading authorities to believe this was a recent murder.
The remains will be sent to the Los Angeles Coroner for DNA and dental analysis.
