Severe thunderstorms in the Baltimore area this evening:
At 5:30 p.m. this evening, weather radar indicates strong thunderstorms in the vicinity of Baltimore, Maryland. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Prince George's County and Anne Arundel County. A Tornado Warning is currently in effect for parts of Baltimore County. Although all locations in central Maryland will not be impacted by storms, some locations will experience strong winds in excess of 50 miles per hour, heavy rain, localized flooding, dangerous winds, and hail.
A very warm, humid flow of air continues over the Middle Atlantic states today. This set-up is a classic "Bermuda High" that will keep the area hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and heat index values in the mid to upper 90s. An upper-air trough will move through the region this evening, sparking widespread thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a strong cold front will approach Baltimore and Washington from the west on Tuesday. This will produce widespread thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon and evening as cooler, drier air behind the front clashes with warm, humid air in place over central Maryland. Cooler and less humid air will overspread the Middle Atlantic states by the middle of the week with highs only in the upper 70s in Baltimore and Washington by Thursday.
