The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and northwestern Indiana. This includes the entire Chicago area, Rockford, Milwaukee, and Gary.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms which is ongoing across eastern Iowa is expected to persist this afternoon and this evening across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. This line will likely impact a good chunk of the Chicago area as well as Rockford and Milwaukee.

Arrival time is expected between 5pm and 7pm CDT this evening.

These storms will bring a widespread risk for damaging winds (possibly greater than 80 mph). In addition, there is the risk for large damaging hail and a few tornadoes.

The line of storms headed this way has already produced at least three tornado reports over eastern Iowa.

Ahead of these storms is a moist, tropical airmass that will help feed these thunderstorms throughout the evening.

Weather conditions should be monitored closely and any outdoor plans should strongly be considered for arrangement for another evening. Stay tuned for more updates!
