A sticky and steamy air mass is in place across the region. Along with the heat and humidity, thunderstorms are likely for the weekend and into early next week. A strong disturbance will finally pass by and bring an end to the stiffening weather by Wednesday.

The storms this weekend are not likely to be widespread or severe but a few isolated storms could approach or become severe briefly. Strong wind and large hail are the primary threats. Frequently lightning and heavy downpours are also possible. More than two inches of rain may fall in the next few days. The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk for severe weather to our west this weekend and just to our south on Monday when we have the best chance of seeing severe weather. Damaging wind and large hail would be the primary threats. Before you head out for any outdoor activities review these safety tips:

Temperatures the next few days will be upper 80s to near 90° inland with cooler readings as the lakeshore. Dewpoint temperatures climb from the steamy 60s into the oppressive 70s for the start of the week, pushing heat index values into the mid-90s inland and upper 80s and the lakeshore. After the storm finally passes by a cooler and drier air mass returns for the last part of the week and into the holiday weekend.
