Haider Zafar is awaiting trial for allegedly operating a real estate fraud scheme. This case was an operation that involved multimillion-dollar real estate. On Aug. 23, 2013, a witness testified against Haider Zafar and accused him of ripping off numerous people that included Miami Heat basketball players. The attorney for the defendant stated that they would continue to fight these allegations.
Last week, the testimony came from a federal court in Columbus, Ohio. Hairder Zafar used to live in Ohio, but now resides in southern Florida. He currently is awaiting trial for 135-count indictment. The court papers stated that the defendant swindled about $8 million dollars from multiple people.
The known victims include former forward Mike Miller, forward Rashard Lewis and guard James Jones. In addition to the Miami Heat players involved, there are others listed. One other Miami Heat player's name was not released due to an ongoing investigation. The other unnamed victims in this case are Florida residents.
The case against Haider Zafar stated that he prospected investors into buying land in Pakistan. He told victims that his uncle was Pakistan’s defense minister and was responsible for purchasing property in that country. He persuaded the victims that the government would later buy the property for a profit.
