Several dozen Canadian wild fires are burning in Quebec; several thousand people displaced

Monday, several dozen wild fires are burning in southern Quebec, and officials are calling it "a forest catastrophe," with eight of the fires considered out of control. Over 2,000 people have been evacuated from the area and many have been told that they cannot go home for at least a week and half. And residents still in the area have been asked to keep their doors and windows shut.

Winds shifted overnight and smoke can be seen as far as Vermont and New Hampshire. Air quality warnings have been issued in the Montreal region and Ottawa.

Winds have shifted smoke from the Canadian wildfires over northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont Monday morning.

Over 50 forest wildfires are burning in the central area of the province.

The Red Cross has provided aid of food, shelter, clothing and other services for the more than 2,000 people who have been displaced. More than 1,200 firefighters from the US and Canada are helping with putting out the fires.
