"Seventeen And Missing" gets its basis from the true story of a Redmont teen who disappeared in Washington in 2004. According to police records, Laura Hatch, 17, was reported missing after she did not return home from a party. The investigation revealed that the teenager's car had fallen several hundred feet off of a cliff. The car was hidden in the thick brush. The case gained national attention when a classmate's mother began having visions/dreams of the missing girl's location. Through the help of the friend's mother, the police were able to locate her after eight days, according to The Seattle Times.
