The SEVENDUST concert at the Tulsa State Fair on Saturday September 28, 2013 was an outdoor concert and if you live in Oklahoma, you know it rained almost all day. The skies cleared up and the fans poured in to hear Lajon Witherspoon sing, John Connolly make his rhythm guitar talk to you, Clint Lowery taking the lead with his lead guitar, Vince Hornsby on bass and the oh so talented Morgan Rose on drums.
All too often the drummer is lost in the set and the main focus is on the vocals. All of the members of SEVENDUST sing and are performers. Morgan Rose answered a haunting question that his fans want to know. You entertain the audience just as much as the guitar solos, if not more with your throwing your drumsticks up while playing and never missing a beat. There has to be one performance on stage that wasn't so pretty, will you share it with your fans? "While filling in for Tommy with Mötley Crüe. I hit the lights above me, shattering glass everywhere. Including right on top off Vince Neil. Pretty embarrassing." Thank you Morgan for showing us that you too are human.
This show had to be the best one ever. The number of children that were in attendance and many of them were right up front in VIP. A ten year old girl made Lajon's night by singing right along to his songs. Lajon stood in front of her on stage and sang to her, almost like a serenade. The smile and overall expression on his face was priceless. You could feel the pure happiness that these children added to the energy that Lajon put into the show. The interaction with the crowd as a whole was amazing. Eric DeMoss of a rising local band Zero Crossing was estactic when he relayed to me, "Hey Helen!! I got to sing on 'Black' at the 7dust show!!!! LJ put the mic in my face twice!!! Best show ever!!!" Muzette Zgirl was front and center in VIP and her response to the show was from a front row perspective. "Being that it was my second SEVENDUST show it was amazing! The band is so energetic and the really involve the crowd. Also they are real down to earth guys and love to show everyone a good time. The crowds energy was amazing and I know they feed off of that." With storms all around and a sprinkle here and there, the show still went on and with all of the energy, the show was electrifying.
If you were not able to come out to the Tulsa State Fair, you will have another chance to see SEVENDUST this year in Tulsa. They will be returning on Sunday November 17, 2013 to the Brady Theater.
