The year was 1998. The line of metal fans wrapped around the American Theater looked as if it was slowly being pulled into the venue like a rope. As opening acts Clutch and Stuck MoJo warmed up the ever growing crowed you could actually feel the anticipation swell within the entire theater. When the stage was set and the Sevendust back drop was revealed the crowed pushed and shoved their way to the stage, squeezing everyone into the pit like sweaty sardines. The guitar intro to the song “Black” sent chills across my skin as front man Lajon Whitherspoon began stretching, as if he were getting ready to work out. The second the song kicked in Whitherspoon leaped into the crowd, knees first. The rest of the band played as if they owned the place and to tell you the truth, for the next hour and a half, they did! That was the first time I ever saw Sevendust live and it was a night that I will never forget.
Sevendust, in my opinion, is one of the most talented metal bands to ever hit the airwaves. The power behind their music is so intense it bursts through your chest and dives right into your soul. Since the release of their self titled debut album in 1997, this incredible band has produced a total of eight incredible albums and now they are about to release their ninth incredible album. Scheduled to be released March 26th 2013, “Black out the sun” is sure to be nothing less than another piece of pure art.
The first single off the new album “Decay” sounds like, well, Sevendust. While many bands from the 90s have changed their style so much they don’t even sound like the same band anymore, Sevendust has progressed throughout the years but remained true to the sound that gave birth to their popularity. This talented group of guys has proven themselves over the years and with the release of “Black out the sun” they prove themselves to be an unstoppable force of metal.
Not only are we going to be blessed with a new album from Sevendust , they will be swinging through St. Louis on Friday April 5th 2013 to rock for us at POPs in Sausget Illinois.
