Seven things to do at church during the song service when you cannot sing

The Bible says to make a joyful noise unto the Lord (Psalm 100:1), but why must noise come out of my mouth? I cannot carry a tune in a bucket. Christmas is so exciting at church and those great tunes are the ones I would love to sing?
1. The most obvious answer is to mouth the words. That works for people across the room, but those nearby would know I am faking. I cannot sing because I cannot sing and those that sit in my pew know it, too.
2. If I sit in the back or in the balcony, there would be fewer people to complicate my concerns. That also means I would be away from everyone else. If they sang well, I could not hear their throat beauty.
3. I could stay home, watch televangelists, and hear the show’s music. That would add to my loneliness and it is not the same. I know what they want. They do not want to save my soul. I that suspicious of them.
4. They want my money. What if I send them $5.00 and get a prayer clothe to put on my throat? I bet that would heal my voice. Does God work like that?
5. Maybe I could babysit my pew neighbor’s kid and no one would expect me to sing because I am keeping the kid from distracting the Christmas carols. What would I do if the kid started crying? What would I do if the kid needs a diaper change?
6. I could hum or pretend I have a sore throat, but that is lying and lying is a sin. I might as well not go to church and then I would miss the reason there is a church in the first place.
7. I do have one more choice. I could make a joyful noise unto the Lord, anyway. The Bible does say to make noise that is joyful, not beautiful. Perhaps there are others like me. I will join them and sing unto the Lord even if my voice is two octaves off.
Christmas is not about the accomplishments of man. It is about the wonderful Lord. I will continue to sing of my Redeemer.
