Seven style resolutions for 2011

It’s exactly one week into the new year—have you stuck to your resolutions so far? The good news: it’s not too late. National beauty, fashion and health lifestyle expert Rebekah George has identified style resolutions that are easy to keep but go a long way in creating the most stylish you in 2011.

The Connecticut native is host of the online beauty show “Total Look” and has produced and styled stories for women’s magazines including Redbook, Prevention and Natural Health. She is frequently featured as an expert and has made over dozens of women on top-rated television shows like the Today Show, Good Morning America and Inside Edition and in national publications.

Follow her seven style resolutions, and make the “new year, new you” mantra a reality.

Learn your correct bra size. Between 75 and 80 percent of women wear the wrong bra size. Make it a point this year to get the right fit. Your bra is critical to how your clothes look, helping give shape and support and allowing your clothes to fall correctly. Most retailers have someone on hand to help size you for free.

Clean out your closet. Why? This will help you stay organized and be able to find your clothes and put together different looks more easily. If you haven't worn something in the past few years, donate it to charity. If it's a very memorable item, store it in a bin in your attic. Make your day-to-day closet just that—clothes you wear regularly.

Invest in a classic piece. Classic items like the LBD (little black dress) or the LBH (little black handbag) will last you forever. You'll also be able to wear them over and over again, so you will get your money out of the investment. Also, when you have one investment item, you can get away with mixing it with lower-priced items.

Visit the tailor. Fit is key to an item looking right. When your clothes fit you to a tee you also look longer and leaner.

Take a risk with fashion this year and try something new. For instance, if you've been hesitant to try a skinny jean or jegging, go for it this year. Everyone can get away with wearing trends. The key is tweaking it so it's right for you and your body type.

Be casually chic. Don't leave the house looking frumpy. You can look stylish in casual clothes. Put together a few looks for when you're running out the door. Toss those stained sweatpants and try a pair of leggings with a ballet flat or an over-the-knee boot and boyfriend sweater.

Add some color. It's so easy to stick with just black or brown, but color is a great way to add a glow to your skin tone and brighten your mood. Give your look a pop of color—wear a brighter, jewel-toned sweater or shirt with your basic black pants.
