Seven Stampeders named CFL All-Stars

According to the Canadian Press, seven Calgary Stampeders were named to the 2013 Canadian Football League all-star team on Wednesday. The Stampeders had the most all-star representation among all the teams in the CFL.

The list includes the 2013 Canadian Football League's Most Outstanding Player award winner Jon Cornish at running back, Marquay McDaniel at wide receiver, Stanley Bryant at offensive tackle, Charleston Hughes at defensive end, Rene Paredes at kicker, Rob Maver at punter and Larry Taylor at special teams.

Cornish led the CFL with 1813 rushing yards, McDaniel led the Stampeders with 1047 receiving yards, Taylor led the CFL with 615 yards on punt returns and Paredes led the CFL with a 94.7% field goal percentage.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats meanwhile became the first team in CFL history to advance to the Grey Cup and not have an all-star.

In other CFL news, former Calgary Stampeder quarterback Danny McManus was named the new assistant general manager of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Monday. The Blue Bombers also hired former Toronto Argonauts linebacker Mike O'Shea as their head coach on Wednesday. He becomes the first Canadian to be the head coach of the Blue Bombers since Cal Murphy in 1996.
