Delaware County has so many places to host your simple or grand picnic plans. Here are seven settings to consider for your gathering of family and friends now that picnic season has arrived.

Picnics are personal

Whether you plan a fancy feast or simple pot luck style dining, choosing the right place is as important as the ease of gobbling your culinary delights. That’s because picnics are incredibly personal in order that it please everyone who participates. So plan well and consider what outdoors activities and settings that will best please all of your group as you consider one of these Delco seven.

Largest of this group is certainly Ridley Creek State Park with 14 distinct picnic areas and ample activity options from horseback riding to biking, hiking, fishing and sports within its vast 2600 acres. Tyler Arboretum may seem an unusual location, however, picnic tables are comfortably offered among Tyler’s mature shrubs and trees. Young and old will delight in the tree stand styled treehouses and miles of trails within its 650 forested acres. Clayton Park takes a shaded approach to the 11 picnic groves offered for your gathering. Additionally, Clayton features trails, playing fields, stream and even a nine-hole golf course within its 170 acres. Smedley Park has similar scenic woodlands that border open fields, baseball fields and plenty of picnic areas near to playgrounds. There are also hiking paths and stream across its 141 acres to burn some energy. Rose Tree Park rolls its way into fifth spot for this list with its hills and valleys that contain an amphitheater for summer events. Picnic areas and benches abound, as well as, plenty of land to stretch your legs. Glen Providence Park, also in Media, shares a hilly setting to that of Rose Tree. More compact with just 25 to Rose Tree’s 120 acre spread, Glen Providence features majestic trees, bird sanctuary, pond and water fall should you choose this setting for your picnic adventure. Last on our list of seven is Upland Park with 60 acres of parkland and play areas. Ample parking is available to bring your group here to its picnic areas, playground or softball fields. Upland’s acreage should easily help to burn off some calories as it offers another picnic setting for fun. So plan, pack, and play.
