Valparaiso native Michael Essany, who began in the entertainment business as a teenager hosting a talk show from his parents' living room, is moving to the world of late night. Essany, who is also an Entertainment Examiner, has a new show that will premiere tonight that is filmed just outside Chicago. Essany has noted the absence of a late night talk show in Chicago and is the first to launch a nightly show in the 10:30 time slot that isn't coming from the east or west coast, going up against some of his long time idols.
Essany's show, Seven on Ridge, will follow a similar format as shows like Jay Leno's, opening with a monolauge and including guests that will chat with him from chairs and a sofa beside his desk. He'll also have a number of musical guests that will perform along side his band, which numbers about 20. The set and feel of the show are reminiscent of a supper club of the past.
The show will air weeknights at 10:30 p.m. central time on WJYS, which transmits from atop the Willis Tower in Chicago. WJYS is available in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Those in other areas will be able to view past shows online. For more information or to get ticket to a taping, visit www.sevenonridge.com. Tonight's guests include WGN Meteorologist Tom Skilling, mega-mentalist Sidney Friedman, comedic duo Lucky Luciano and Vince Acevedo and Chicago blues legend Lonnie Givens.
