It is that time of year, again! The winds stroll in, the leaves change, and everyone desires a good scare because Halloween is right around the corner. By accomplishing this goal, you might want to visit some of the city's most famous haunted houses, which citizens have been doing for the past two decades. San Antonio is filled with popular haunted houses and here are seven of the scariest places to visit for shrieks and freights throughout the month of October.

Nightmare on Grayson - In its last season, San Antonio’s largest and longest running haunted house has scared people of all ages since 1989. This annual Halloween tradition now features the Mindshaft, Terror in 3D, and zombie rabid dogs. Not recommended for children under 10, people with heart conditions, or anyone susceptible to devious mental manipulation. 201 East Grayson. 210-979-5522

Terror Mansion - Meet your favorite horror movie villains including Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, and Jason Voorhees, who are searching for their next victim like you. Run for your life as you attempt to survive 23 intense rooms of Halloween horror. This maze features an insane asylum and a human meat locker. 13th Floor Haunted House - Designed by nationally recognized haunted house designers, this haunt will transport you to new levels of horror that is not your run of the mill scare. The Alamo city’s newest and largest haunted house offers two haunted houses at one location for the price of one. 1203 East Commerce Street. 210-338-0382

Ripley’s Haunted Adventure - This multi-million dollar haunted house has many locations across the country. Take the three story coffin ride filled with live actors, animatronics, and bone chilling special effects. Enter at your own risk. 329 Alamo Plaza. 210-226-2828

Howl-O-Scream - At SeaWorld San Antonio, you get to enjoy a few haunted mazes within the park of sea creatures and roller coaster rides. Enjoy family-friendly thrills throughout the day and ghoulish chills after 6 p.m., when you might run into Jack O’Lantern and his minions. Monster Mansion - Corey Flores is known as “The Haunted House Guy” and has been in business for 12 years. This haunted house lowers the scares during the week for children and raises them on nights and weekends for adults. Now open until Halloween. 2827 Hillcrest Drive. 210-381-6645

Fright Fest at Six Flags Fiesta Texas - At night, the theme park transforms into a Halloween playground, offering thrilling rides and chilling haunted houses. This memorable attraction for the whole family will also include a trick-or-treat trail for the children.
