Seven classic games to be available for 30 cents on the Wii U eShop

As part of a promotion celebrating the Nintendo Famicom's (the Japanese version of the NES) 30th anniversary and in anticipation of the Wii U Virtual Console's official launch this spring, Nintendo is making seven classic NES and Super NES titles available on the Wii U eShop for just 30 cents each.

There will be one 30-cent game per month, with each game's 30-cent promotional period lasting -- you guessed it -- 30 days. This is a nice, cheap way to "preview" the Wii U's Virtual Console service in advance of its official spring launch.

Because there has been some confusion online regarding this promotion, I feel I should make it clear here that these are full game purchases, not just trial period purchases. Any game you buy for 30 cents as part of this promotion is yours to keep and play for good; they do not expire when their promotional price does!

The seven games that are part of this promotion and their specific days of availability are as follows:

• Jan. 23 - Feb. 21: Balloon Fight (NES)
• Feb. 20 - Mar. 21: F-Zero (SNES)
• Mar. 20 - Apr. 18: Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream (NES)
• Apr. 17 - May 16: Kirby's Adventure (NES)
• May 15 - June 13: Super Metroid (SNES)
• June 12 - July 11: Yoshi (NES)
• July 15 - Aug. 13: Donkey Kong (NES)

Balloon Fight is available for download from the Wii U eShop right now, though you might have to do a search for it as it wasn't on the eShop's front page when I went to check it out.
