Seth Meyers didn't sing and he definitely didn't dance. The host of the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards took a more traditional path for award shows and he cracked a few jokes at the expense of NBC and Netflix. According to Mediaite on Monday, the host used more of an old-school monologue that took aim of the state of the television industry.
Offering up facts and figures about the television industry and how it has changed over the years, the monologue was interesting but it didn't really hold everyone’s attention. Meyers poked fun at his NBC home, saying that while HBO has a total of 99 nominations tonight and NBC is also a network. Comparing TV to a “bootie call,” and that a "diva" was the movies where it was a high-maintenance relationship. Looking to move the show along instead of just giving some shock value to the masses, Meyer’s more tamed approach seemed to work well.
However, some people might not have gotten the memo. After the show got started it was Jimmy Kimmel who really revved up the crowd with some funny dialog about movie stars being part of the show. Leaving people in stitches the moment had people comparing Seth Meyers to Jimmy Kimmel in a very intriguing way.
Take a look at the video clip of Seth Meyers kicking off the Emmys 2014 with his interesting opening monologue. While the viewers seemed to like Meyers, it seemed his low key energy didn't bring as much enthusiasm as needed for the show. However, as fans of the Emmys know, every year is different when a new host is picked.
