Gotham magazine gave us a preview of the annual Men's Issue featuring funny man Seth Meyers on the cover. During his interview with Gotham magazine, Seth discussed the challenge of following President Barack Obama's speech at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He also dished about his new hosting gig as “Late Night” host in early 2014.
A few years ago, Seth did stand-up comedy at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Seth admitted there were two terrible parts about following Barack Obama. The President tells great jokes but he doesn't close with one. Instead he tells everyone to think about the men and women serving overseas. Seth said you can't tell the President not to close with that because you have to tell jokes afterward. When Seth was done, Obama did say he did a good job.
Seth Meyers will be replacing Jimmy Fallon on “Late Night” in 2014. Fallon congratulated him and so did Jay Leno and Jon Stewart. Seth said it is nice to know how supportive people will be about him hosting “Late Night” next year.
Amy Poehler interviewed Seth for Gotham magazine and asked who he would love to interview on the show. Seth told her, “I want to get verbal confirmation right now that you're going to be the first guest.” Amy said she would go on the show and never leave because she would be hiding under the desk. Seth wants the second guest to be huge and would like to offer it to Tom Cruise.
Gotham magazine asked about what it would be like to leave “SNL.” Seth said it was hard wrap his head around leaving a place where he lived and breathed for so long. He said he would leave quietly because he would be back on the network in two weeks. Seth quipped, “I'd love to go out the Poehler way, which is to just have my water break, drop the mic, and be, like, I'm out of here. Not available to me.”
Seth admitted he could not imagine watching “SNL” as a pure fan again. He stated, “Because as you know, the greatest joy of working at this show is the Wednesday night roundtable, which you get to see all those great people and what their ideas were in any given week and what ones make it to the show. It's the most wonderful journey that only people who work here get to see.”
