"Family Guy" creator, Seth MacFarlane received opportunity to host the 85th Annual Academy Awards last Sunday for the first time, and when asked if he would do it again, the funnyman said, “No.”
Many celebs, including actress/dancer, Julianne Hough thought MacFarlane was great. The actress even tweeted, “I love @SethMacFarlane he is FANTASTIC :) love you.... #call me ;) #Oscars"
But other critics and actors inside the Dolby Theater thought he was controversial, especially with the John Wilkes Booth getting through Lincoln’s head joke, is what stunned the crowd.
Hosting the Oscars has been a job many big name talents have taken a shot at. Funny stars like, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and even David Letterman has hosted the Oscars and all received both warm and some mediocre reviews like MacFarlane.
Hosting the Oscars is a very high profile job that can both make you or break you.
Just two years ago, actors James Franco and now Academy Award winner, Anne Hathaway hosted the prestige job together with hopes to capture a younger audience, but sadly captured horrible and negative reviews.
Hosts Franco and Hathaway were not funny, Franco seemed "too stiff," making Hathaway seem way-more livelier than her co-host, many critics said.
Because of the Franco and Hathaway debacle, the Academy Awards raced to seek a bigger name that can attract both the younger and older audience, and be refreshing again.
In 2012, the Oscars tapped famed movie director and producer, Brett Rattner to produce, who then tapped fellow friend and actor/comedian, Eddie Murphy to host.
Eddie Murphy was ready and set to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards, but Rattner was involved in a controversy with the gay community, which forced the Academy to release Rattner from his producing duties.
Since Eddie Murphy was attached to Rattner, Murphy felt it was right to pull himself out from the prestigious project, therefore now forcing the Academy to quickly grab another high-profile host.
The Academy ended up with long-time and well-known Oscar host, Billy Crystal. Sadly, Crystal also left a bad impression, and bad reviews, almost like he performed poorly on purpose so he won’t be asked to come back again.
Since Eddie Murphy was skipped one year, and not necessarily fired, should the Academy reconsider the “Beverly Hills Cop” star and "Saturday Night Live" alumni? Your comments are welcomed.
