Sesame Street, Google and Blue Star Families partner to help Atlanta Military

While many Atlanta military families will be celebrating the Christmas season with their service member lovingly at hand, some may be missing a service member who is serving overseas. But thanks to the collaborative efforts of Google, the Blue Star Families Organization and Sesame Street’s free social networking site for military families, these families will still be able to enjoy a moment or two with their deployed loved one.

Sesame Street’s site, Sesame Street Family Connections and the nonprofit organization, Blue Star Families along with Google partnered to create a free resource for military families throughout the Atlanta area and all over the U.S. to be able to stay in touch with their deployed loved one over the holidays. By providing a $10 call credit for those military families who register with the Blue Star Families or Sesame Street Family Connections at goo.gl/voicemilitary between now and December 22nd, 2010, these special families have the opportunity to share the spirit of the season with a deployed loved one.

These calls may be made internationally through Google’s own Google Voice, Google’s communications management service or from Google’s email service, Gmail, where calls made to U.S. numbers are free.

In a press release dated December 3rd, Google’s Marketing Manager, Michael Bolognino, states,"We're pleased to be teaming up with Sesame Street and Blue Star Families to make it easier for military families to stay in touch during the holidays. We recognize the sacrifices military families make while their loved ones are far away, and we can't think of a better way to use Google's communication tools–Google Voice and Gmail calling–to help them stay connected."

“Hearing the voice of a loved one who has been deployed is one of the most reassuring things to a military family and during the holidays it’s even more crucial that our service members feel connected,” said Gary E. Knell, Sesame Workshop CEO and President.“Sesame Street has a longstanding commitment to our troops and their children and we are proud to have Sesame Street Family Connections partner with Google and Blue Star Families to bring the spirit of the season to military families at home and abroad.”

“The holidays can be difficult for military families and service members, with loved ones deployed or stationed far from home,” said Mark D. Smith, Blue Star Families Executive Director. “Blue Star Families' mission is to support, connect and empower military families. That's why we're excited to team with Google and Sesame Street to ensure that our military families are able to share the holiday season with their loved ones around the world.”

This $10 call credit will provide approximately 30 minutes of talk time to Afghanistan, 60 minutes to Iraq and, according to the press release, also provides, “hundreds of minutes” to countries throughout Europe and all over the world.

To be eligible for this generous advantage, Atlanta area military families may register at either the Sesame Street site at http://www.sesamestreetfamilyconnections.org/login/ or by going to the Blue Star Families site at www.bluestarfam.org. Registration is fast and free for all military families.

**Please be aware that the $10 call credit may take up to a week to appear in your new account. This offer is good from now until December 22nd, 2010.
