Sesame Place opens April 30, introduces two new ‘Sesame Street’ attractions

Sesame Place, the only U.S. theme park based on the “Sesame Street” television show, officially opens for its summer season on Saturday, April 30. As part of its 31st season, Sesame Place will offer guests two new attractions: “Neighborhood Street Party,” an interactive parade, and the new ride Elmo’s Cloud Chaser.

Sesame Place also welcomes a new character, Murray. Murray is the orange reality-TV Muppet from “Sesame Street” and the first new Sesame Place character since 2007. He will join other characters in the “Neighborhood Street Party.”

The “Neighborhood Street Party” parade, which will naturally take place on Sesame Street, focuses on helping kids learn about letters, numbers and friendship.  The parade features “Sesame Street” characters: Elmo, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monter, Count Von Count, Abby Cadabby, Rosita, Big Bird, Zoe and Telly. In addition to these favorite and familiar Muppets, the parade includes 11 floats and incorporates “Sesame Street” songs and contemporary music.

The interactive street parade promises to get guests involved in the action during its three daily performances. Its first performance is Saturday at 2:00 p.m., with its first night performance beginning June 18 at 9:00 p.m.  The “Neighborhood Street Party” replaces the “Rock Around the Block” parade that debuted in 1997.

Elmo’s Cloud Chaser, located in Elmo’s World, is a classic swing ride themed to an airplane ride. The ride uses plane sound effects and Elmo talks to guests throughout their flight. The family ride can handle up to 36 guests and it has a height requirement of 42,” unless accompanied by a “supervising companion.” No hand-held infants may ride.

“This family ride is another great addition to Elmo’s World, which currently features Peek-A-Bug, Blast Off and Flyin’ Fish,” said Park President Robert Caruso. “We are always looking for ways to offer our guests a new and exciting experience at Sesame Place, and the ‘Neighborhood Street Party’ parade and Elmo’s Cloud Chaser will certainly help us do just that in 2011.”

Elmo’s Cloud Chaser had its premiere during a Sesame Place event in partnership with Variety, The Children’s Charity on April 22.

Sesame Place also welcomes a new character, Murray. Murray is the orange reality-TV Muppet from “Sesame Street” and the first new Sesame Place character since 2007. He will join other characters in the “Neighborhood Street Party.”

Sesame Place is a theme park focused on families with young children, drawing on the world and characters of “Sesame Street.” Sesame Place offers rides from water rides to roller coasters; live shows and parades; play areas interactive water fountains; character dining and meet-and-greet opportunities with Muppets characters. Sesame Place also hosts several family-friendly themed weekends and events throughout its season.

Sesame Place is located 30 minutes north of Philadelphia and 90 minutes south of New York City. Visit Sesame Place online or call 1-866-GO-4-ELMO for more information.

Although Sesame Place officially Saturday, April 30, a preview night for season ticket holders takes place on Friday from 3:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
