Emergency Services in Bristol Twp. were called to the scene of a serious accident on the 700 block of Newportville Road in Bristol Twp. Pa today, June 27 , 2014. According to Bristol Twp. Police, a white passenger car was traveling north on Newportville Rd. at a high rate of speed, when the driver lost control and careened into a woman driving a mini van. She was traveling in the opposite direction.
The force of the crash caused the driver of the car to be trapped for almost 20 minutes. The driver of the van was not trapped but did require medical attention, police said. At this time,it is too early to determine if anyone will be cited for the crash. rescue companies went in service and removed the dash and roof of the car. The crash happened at 6:00 p,m.
Fire Police were called to divert traffic and kept a small portion of the road closed for about two hours. Area residents complain that this section of the road is the site of several serious accidents and they would like to see a three way stop sign built into the intersection. The road is on a curve. It is safe as long as people obey the 25 MPH speed limit. If they speed, that curve can be deadly.
One young man on a motorcycle was killed in an accident at that location two years ago. There are signs and a road side memorial from that crash scene.
Police could not speculate if drugs or alcohol was a cause or contributing factor of this crash. When the tow trucks arrived, it took them about an hour to clear the wreckage and the glass and debris from the crash. There were parts of both vehicles scattered for about a block.
