Series of events scheduled to celebrate Colorado's Cinema Day

Colorado Film and Video Association

Wednesday, 26 February is CINEMA Day, a celebration of Colorado's film incentives program. To promote and support an active film community, the Colorado Film and Video Association (CFVA) has organized several events for locals in the industry to partake.

On 1 July 2012, the state legislature passed a tax credits program to encourage filmmaking throughout the state of Colorado. The competitive industry continues to flourish across the nation because of tax incentives, and Colorado hosts a number of popular locations for major commercials, local features, and the occasional production of Hollywood blockbusters.

Melissa Kuipers, policy advisor, Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, Schrek, comments that “the last two years have showcased an exciting expansion of opportunities for Colorado's creative community, particularly in the realm of film, television, and video game production.” She continues by adding that the involvement and outreach of the CFVA highlights local talent for elected officials to observe the value and importance of the state's creative industries.

In addition to the CFVA Board of Directors election, the following events will occur throughout the day:

CFVA (Hollywood) Comes to the State Capital
West Foyer of the Capital

  • Colorado film crew professionals capture green screen, Hollywood moments with state legislators and their staff. Filmed, edited, screened, and distributed at the Cinema Day reception, legislators will receive copies of their individual scenes, along with “behind-the-scenes” with the production crew. Denver Film Society student filmmakers will also participate in this fun, demonstrative example of the filmmaking process.

After Hours Reception
Colorado Automobile Dealers Association

  • A party for the Colorado Legislature; the CO Office of Film, Television, and Media; CFVA members; and media industry supporters. Celebrate another year in media production throughout Colorado, observe the successes from the tax incentives program, and enjoy refreshments.

Celebration Party – Board Election
The Lobby

  • The CFVA gathers to celebration 2013's success and vote on new leadership.

Also planned throughout the day is a membership drive for the CFVA. Current members are encouraged to help the CFVA's mission and bring more film/visual media professionals to join the ranks. Details on the CFVA membership can be found online.
