Serie A postponed two games this weekend. The two games between Bologna vs. Juventus and Parma vs. Fiorentina for the 23rd round of the Italian season were cancelled this Sunday because of the intense snow storms that has been occurring all over Italy in the past weeks.
The snow has left many stadiums throughout Italy unplayable. The fields are covered with hard ice making the surface slippery and very hard to play on.
The league decided to postpone the games during the heavy snow that started falling late Saturday night in the cities of Parma and Bologna which were the hosting cities of the two matches.
The weather is expected to stay consistent throughout Monday in Italy, so the league went ahead and cancelled the Monday game between Siena and Roma.
This storm has cause Italy to cancel four games last weekend as well. The harsh climate has caused some teams to fall behind by one or two games in the season.
The snow storm is considered to be a bit of an anomaly in Italy. It’s been a while since the whole country has been stricken by such conditions, especially to cause the national sport of the country to be affected as such.
Currently, in the league, the leader is AC Milan with 47 points and has all 23 rounds played. The second place is Juventus with 45 points but only has 21 games played. Lazio is in third place with 42 points and up and coming Udinese is in fourth place following with 41 points. Both Lazio and Udinese have all 23 games played like AC Milan.
Serie A has not released the new schedule for the games postponed so far this season.
