Serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) is alive and well, sporting a bushy beard and living in the woods, as revealed in last week's “The Following.” On the Jan. 27, 2014 episode of the show, entitled “For Joe,” Ryan (Kevin Bacon) continues to investigate the brutal subway murders and phone calls place him in harms way, according to TV Guide.

The website describes the episode with, “Ryan’s obsession grows after the subway killings; and mysterious phone calls bring him face-to-face with a major threat. Meanwhile revelations come to light about Joe’s new life.”

Although the second season of “The Following” has proved to be just as gritty and gory as the last, Kevin Bacon recently said that the upcoming episodes will contain more heart, according to the Huffington Post.

He stated the show will display more emotion, “if that’s possible,” noting it will “still have all the scares and intensity, but there’s more stuff going on character-wise.”

“The Following” star also revealed that at one point, he and Joe come “face-to-face,” but said “it’s very fleeting.”
