Serial cat killer possibly on the loose in New York and Connecticut areas (Photos)

Authorities in Putnam County, NY and Connecticut are working closely together to find an alleged serial cat killer after a fourth cat was killed since last July.

On February 7, Robert Kitts contacted the Putnam County SPCA after he found his 7-month-old cat, Blackfoot, bleeding outside his home in lower Hudson River Valley, stating the cat appeared to be shot.

She also appeared to be paralyzed from the mid-section down, and x-rays showed a metal projectile embedded in her spine, caused by either a high-powered BB gun or a low-caliber rifle, and a spinal fracture due to blunt force trauma. Sadly, Blackfoot died from associated paralysis four days later.

Kitts believes she was called over, shot in the back, and then kicked.

Last August, just half a mile from where Blackfoot's incident occurred, a decapitated cat's head was found in the middle of the road - and two other cat beheadings had been found in nearby Connecticut in July. Although Blackfoot was not decapitated like the others, she too was beaten and they believe these horrific acts of violence may be connected.

Officials are afraid the cat killer isn't done yet, and that he or she could move on to killing humans.

If apprehended, the killer will be charged with a felony. If you have any information about this crime, please call (845) 520-6915 or visit www.spcaputnam.org.
