Serena Williams wins 49th WTA Tour title of her career

Serena Williams has netted the 49th WTA Tour title of her career by beating Jelena Jankovic 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the Family Circle Cup finals, reported CNN.com on April 7. She’s on track to hit her milestone 50th title in the very near future; she will become only the tenth woman to achieve such a feat.

Williams is ranked No. 1 in the world and showed how patience can help a player persevere after dropping the first set to Jankovic. Williams calmed herself a bit and then stepped up to take charge in the second set and never lost control after that.

Earlier in the tournament, Venus and Serena Williams met up in the semifinals for the first time in nearly five years and the younger sister was the dominant one in that matchup. Serena handily topped Venus, winning 6-1, 6-2. Experts noted that this was the first match between the two sisters that was dominantly won; previous matchups have been more competitive.
