Once again the U.S. tennis player and defending champion, Serena Williams, proved that she still deserves to be the #1 ranked player in the world with her impressive win over #21 ranked Vera Zvonareva in the women's singles final at 2010 Wimbledon on Saturday.
Unlike her sister, Venus, who was eliminated in the quarterfinals by unseeded Tsvetana Pironkova, 22, from Bulgaria, Serena maintained her usual level of excellence all the way into the final where she smashed her way to victory in only 67 minutes and two straight sets of 6-3, 6-2.
Zvonareva was not able to keep up with the champ's powerful aces which came at her at a recorded 114mph. As Williams continued to play almost completely error-free, Zvonreva started piling up the double-faults which ultimately only accelerated her demise.
"You are a great player and also a great champion," said Zvonareva to Williams after the match. "You really deserved to win today."
Williams can now not only bask in the glory of her accomplishment and the reflection of her shiny trophy, but also fill her pockets with the highest prize money at Wimbledon ever in the amount of £1m.
