On the same day that President Barack Obama's White House is warning Americans about sequestration that will hurt senior citizens, children, and U.S. national security, the newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Thursday that the Obama administration will give $60 million to the Syrian rebels which will include aid such as food and medicine to the rebels battling to oust President Bashar Assad.
Secretary Kerry, while attending an international conference on Syria in Rome, noted that several European Union countries will also assist the rebels especially their military-wing.
This latest foreign-aid bonanza comes in the wake of the Obama administration announcing the military give-away of 60 fighter planes and hundreds of tanks to Egypt despite its government falling into the hands of the radical Muslim Brotherhood.
"This is an amazing example of [President Barack] Obama's priorities. He spouts gloom and doom for the American people many of whom suffer daily due to an awful economic picture, but he spouts hope to Syrian rebels, many of them members of al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups," said former military intelligence officer and police detective Mike Snopes.
"In his own words, Obama is predicting widespread suffering for the American people due to necessary budget cuts, but we give away billions of dollars to the Egyptians, Palestinians, Libyans and now the Syrians. And some of that money ends up in the hands of terrorists who wish us harm," Snopes added.
Appearing beside Secretary Kerry, the leader of the Syrian rebels, Mouaz al-Khatibb, demanded Syrian President Bashar Assad stop the brutality committed by his armed forces that includes using scud missiles on the city of Aleppo.
The rebel groups fighting the Assad regime have begged from the start of their uprising for the U.S. and NATO to increase rebel support and to provide lethal weapons.
"We're doing this, but other countries are doing other things," said Kerry. "I am confident the totality of this effort is going to have an impact on the ability of the Syrian opposition to accomplish its goals."
"While touring the nation as our prophet of doom, Obama has provided $385 million in humanitarian aid to Syria's civilian population and $54 million in medical supplies and other non-lethal assistance to Syria's political opposition. In Obama's own words children will go without daycare, but al-Qaeda fighters in Syria will be assisted with American dollars," said Mike Baker, a political strategist.
"Of course, U.S. news media organizations are assisting Obama by keeping the majority of Americans in the dark regarding sequestration, help given to terrorists and radical Islamists, and the true state of the American economy," Baker said.
Until now, no American dollars or materials have been distributed directly to Syrian rebels. But the U.S. will be sending military and diplomatic technical advisers to the Syrian National Coalition offices currently located in Cairo, Egypt, to oversee and help them spend the money for good governance and rule of law.
