Coming under the heading of "You Can't Make This Stuff Up," CNS News reports that the National Science Foundation - a federal agency - has awarded a grant of $384,949 to Yale University to study "the Evolution of Waterfowl Genitalia." The study focuses on such factors as how age, environment and breeding conditions can affect duck penis length. Are you listening Enzyte?
Funding for this study was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, aka the "Stimulus." It is apparently one of the "shovel ready" jobs that Obama envisioned, because it certainly is shoveling something. One hopes the ducks at least are enjoying it, because the rest of us do not feel very stimulated.
It gets worse.
The study has been receiving stimulus dollars since 2009, according to CNS. In Q4 of 2010 the research team reported these critical findings:
In the last quarter, we have prepared a manuscript for submission on the results of the first two years of experiments on social phenotypic plasticity in duck penis length in Lesser Scaup and Ruddy Duck. Experiments continued on genital social phenotypic plasticity in Mandarin Duck and Laysan Teal...
So they are actually studying more than one duck species! Well it is good to know we - or maybe the ducks anyway - are getting our money's worth, at least.
But even with this, the Obama administration continues to double down on their determination to end White House tours. News like this spotlights Obama and the Democrats' glaring fraud in hyping the supposedly catastrophic impacts of the sequester. It also places in painful relief yet another example of how we are being betrayed daily by the mass media, who steadfastly refuse to report honestly on this administration's shameless behavior. Pat Caddell was not kidding when he called U.S. media "the enemy of the American people."
We have to laugh at the absurdity of this story. But it also points to a frightening, inescapable truth: we are daily being betrayed by both our leaders and the media that reports on them. This betrayal is not limited to studies of duck penises, but those with deadly consequences, like Benghazi, where Americans were murdered, and Obama's quiet moves toward unilateral disarmament, which may spell the end for us all.
