Since 1982, September has been recognized as National Sewing Month. The Sewing & Craft Alliance (SCA) is the official sponsor. This year’s event features a National Sewing Month contest called ‘Sew for the Fun of It’. The object of this contest is to simply sew something fun. Use National Sewing Month as your opportunity to explore your creative side or embrace your passion for sewing. If you need some ideas, SCA has free projects available by clicking this link. For more details about this exciting contest, click here. The contest ends September 30, 2012.
In recognition of National Sewing Month, JoAnn’s is holding a ‘Sew Unique’ contest. This contest will require you to purchase one of Joann’s utility fabrics to create one-of-kind apparel, décor or accessories. Utility fabrics include vinyl, drapery from netting, and burlap, to name a few. Check with your local JoAnn’s store for other utility fabrics that can be used. For inspiration, check out the tips and technique videos by Project Runway’s Christopher Straub. The videos were made exclusively for JoAnn’s contest and offers great tips on using utility fabrics. The cash prizes range from $250 to $1,000. For more details or to register for the contest, click this link to Joan’s Facebook page.
