National Yoga month was founded in June 2009 by a group of yoga teachers. The teachers and students of yoga were driven with a passion to lessen the interference by the government in yoga teacher training. Yoga lovers in the hundreds across the state had committed in some part.
The Yoga Bill was born on February 23, 2010 in the assembly than passed in the Senate on March 1, 2010 and signed into law by Governor Patterson of New York on March 24, 2010. The bill exempts yoga teacher training being regulated from the government in New York.
What promoted this to occur was a letter which had been received by a good deal of yoga teacher trainers in the city of New York. The letter was written by Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision in late April 2009. Basically it stated that teacher training programs may have to be licensed if not they could face suspension and face fines imposed up to the amount of $50,000 dollars.
Prior to the incident during the year of 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services declared September of National Yoga Month. It is among several selected national health observances. Yoga month is now a world wide awareness campaign for the purpose of education, inspiration and motivation for persons to aide in living a healthy lifestyle. Yoga month is organized by the Yoga Health Foundation, a non profit organization. All styles of yoga are welcome to participate. Over 1,000 yoga studios in the nation are offering one week of free yoga classes. There are over hundreds of free classes and events being offered nationwide.
Yoga is on the list from the National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. Various styles of yoga are used as alternative treatments and for general health. Yoga provides mixed postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation practices.

Jnana which in a literal sense means knowledge. However, in the relation of yoga it means the practice of meditation knowledge which brings enlightened wisdom. Some of the elements include not to believe but to realize and development of intuitive wisdom.
Bahakti is the way to channel emotions and feelings to realize the spiritual and eternal nature in everyone. Its grouping includes mantras to open the heart.
Karma is a structure which produces freedom to the response and negative elements of an activity. This knowledge of activity brings about a better understanding to handle mental links like desire and ego.
Hatha is usually used to describe asana (postures). The elements of this type of yoga include asana in conjunction with the six shatkarmas, mudras and bandhas along with pranic awakening practices.
Raja is about the refinement of human behavior and personality by the use of restraint, disciplines, getting physical health and vitality through asanas and pranayamas.
In a 2007 National Health Interview Survey, yoga was one of the top ten therapies used in alternative medicine. More than 13 million people have used yoga between the years 2002 to 2007.
