Sept. 10
NFL Punt, Pass & Kick.
This skills competition will test boys and girls in passing, punting and kicking. The top finisher in each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions from the five age brackets of each local competition will advance to the sectional round. Open to ages 6-15. Sept. 14
GTO - Getting Teens Outdoors.
Learn valuable outdoor skills including wildlife viewing, animal tracking, fly-casting, bait fishing, archery, outdoor survival and more! Classes are taught by Highlands Ranch Metro District park rangers and employees from Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Open to ages 11-15. Class meets Saturdays Sept. 14, 21, 28 and Oct. 5. Sept. 17
Maps and Compass Treasure Hunt.
Learn how to read a map, orient yourself, and find various sites using a map and compass. Find hidden treasures on a scavenger hunt in the open space. Participants get to keep found treasures and a Silva compass. An accompanying adult is required to come along, partner with the child and learn. Meet at Dad Clark Park, 3385 Asterbrook Cir., Highlands Ranch. 4:30-6:30 p.m Open to ages 8-12. Registration required. Cost: resident $20, nonresident $23. 303-791-2710.

Sept. 18
Night Hike
. Don’t be afraid of the dark. Learn about the nocturnal critters that call Highlands Ranch home. Take a stroll with a Highlands Ranch Metro District park ranger to look and listen for animal sights and sounds. Bring your flashlight and dress appropriately for outdoor fun. Open to all ages/families. Registration required. Cost: resident $10, nonresident $12, group discounts apply. Held at Fly’n B Park, 2910 W. Plaza Dr., Highlands Ranch. 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. 303-791-2710.

Sept. 23
Golf Tournament.
Join the Highlands Ranch Metro District for its annual golf tournament at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club. All proceeds benefit Highlands Ranch park and recreation programs and facilities. Play will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. The format is a four-person scramble. All participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf, lunch, drinks, and prizes. Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, third from the last team, longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt. 303-791-2710.

Sept. 27
Little Nature Explorers – Bird Beak Buffet.
Birds have special beaks to help them eat different kinds of food. Learn feathered friends of the area and make a bird beak mask to take home. Open to ages 3-5. 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Meet at Highlands Ranch Metro District Parks, Recreation & Open Space Service Center, 3280 Redstone Park Cir., Highlands Ranch. Registration required.
