This week, Margo Durdel of Oregon Brand Management and winemaker Jonathan Oberlander of J. Scott Cellars will be pouring selections from J. Scott Cellars, Eugene, OR:
Rendezvous Rose 2011 $13.99
Made 100% Pinot Noir. 2011 was Oregon's coolest growing year in 50 years.
The rose has aromas of fresh strawberries. It has no oak and is very soft in the mouth. It is the perfect summer sipper and would also be lovely with a Thanksgiving turkey. I like it ice cold on a warm, lazy afternoon. It is a very versatile wine...had it with sushi last night!
Pinot Blanc 2012 $14.99
This wine is produced from grapes grown by the renowned viticulturist Dr. Mark Kiewer. The wine displays beautiful pineapple and mineral aromas that persist through the long full finish. This wine is a perfect accompaniment to Salmon, Crab and Oysters. Gold Medal winner, Astoria Seafood and Wine Festival.
Roussanne 2011 $16.99
This elegant and exotic white has pretty aromatics and yet is rich in the mouth. It has seen no oak and no M/L. If you like chardonnay, try this wine. Columbia Valley.
Sauvignon Blanc 2012 $16.99
75% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Semillon. The Sauvignon Blanc is ripe and lush. It is loaded with tropical fruit aromatics. It doesn't have any of the typical green bean or "cat piss" aromatics typically associated with sauvignon. It is fruit forward and fully ripe. The Semillon component "stuck"( leaving a little residual sugar) in the blend. it really helps balance the acidity. While the wine was inspired by NZ SB it bears no resemblance. It is a "snap shot" of the perfect 2012 growing season in the Pacific Northwest.
Pinot Noir 'Susan's Vineyard' 2011 $19.99
This fruit forward wine exhibits bright red fruit flavors of red cherry, raspberry and strawberry. With just a hint of oak, it offers many layers of flavor that transition into an elegant lingering finish. This wine pairs wonderfully with Roasted Fowl, Pork Tenderloin and Wild Mushroom Pasta.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 $25.99
Oregon is not known for Cab. In fact, as a California winemaker I used to joke about making cab in Oregon. Well, it is not a joke! This wine is NOT green, it is NOT herbaceous and it is NOT hard. It IS big and fat and juicy! I kid you not.
Petit Sirah 2010 $22.99
This wine is anything BUT petite. It is black as midnight. It offers jammy fruit on the nose and a big chewy texture. This wine is yummy now but has the structure to age for many many years.....if you have the patience to wait. If not, we'll make more :)
