Separation Anxiety

For many stay at home moms this week with be the first week that you are away from your child if they are starting kindergarten. You may worry that they will face separation anxiety, but you may be the one facing separation anxiety. Kindergarten can be a good experience for everyone involved. If you are the one facing separation anxiety don’t transfer your fears onto your child. Make this time a fun and exciting time for your child, not a fearful one.

According to, http://www.education.com/magazine/article/How_Handle_Separation_Anxiety/, check out the school that you plan on sending your child to before you send them there. Make sure that it is a good school that you feel comfortable with. It’s a school that your child will love to go to.

If your child is scared about starting school and being away from you, make this time a fun time. Get them excited to start “big kid” school. Make sure they know that after school they will be coming home to you. Tell them that they will make new friends at school, get to learn fun things, and that they still get to play. Make school an exciting place for them to go to.

Also according to, http://www.education.com/magazine/article/How_Handle_Separation_Anxiety/, start getting ready for school a couple of weeks before the first day. Make a morning and night time routine and stick to it.  Make sure that everyone in the family knows that this is what you have to do in the mornings now. It will make it a lot easier in the mornings and at night if the routines are something that you have been practicing.

The last thing, let your children know that every once in a while you will be at school to help out their teacher, or go eat lunch with them. Always help with their homework, and make learning an exciting thing for both or you, not a chore.
