If you've been following the case of Sammy the cocker spaniel found in a trash bag in Wall Township, N.J. last March, Monday's court appearance at Brick Municipal Court just brought more postponements to the sentencing of Keith Morgan and his wife Shauna Ewing Morgan of Sawmill Road in Bricktown.
There was no reason given why the couple were not sentenced. They face up to six-months in jail and up to three years of probation stated the Asbury Park Press.
Keith Morgan, 56, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and filing a false report and his wife Shauna pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty.
On March 14 the Morgans claimed to have found a cocker spaniel stuffed in a garbage bag and left to die along the side of a road. The couple took the dog, who was so matted he couldn't even stand, to the Associated Humane Society in Tinton Falls. For a day, the Morgans were celebrated heroes - that is until an investigation proved that the matted, severely undernourished and neglected dog named Sammy, really belonged to the Morgans.
The new date is set for November 18th at the Brick Municipal Court. Humane advocates are hoping people will join them in support of all animals and the need for stronger laws against animal cruelty.
