Anime publisher Sentai Filmworks announced yesterday that it has acquired the otherworldly comedy “Hozuki no Reitetsu” for release in North America.

Featuring animation production by WIT Studio, the anime studio behind the popular “Attack on Titan” anime, the 13-episode “Hozuki no Reitetsu” anime is based on the manga by Natsumi Eguchi. The series is directed by Hiro Kaburaki (Kimi ni Todoke) and features character designs by Hirotaka Kato (Eyeshield 21) with series composition from Midori Goto (Loups-Garous).

“Hozuki no Reitetsu” follows Hozuki, the Deputy Chief to Great King Enma, who is responsible for keeping the dark half of the afterlife running smoothly. As troubles come that would throw a wrench in the underworld’s workings, the fiendishly clever Hozuki uses everything in his power and the power of those around him to make sure things run right and the job gets done, even if it means breaking an unbreakable rule or two.

“Hozuki no Reitetsu” will be available through select digital outlets soon and Sentai Filmworks has plans for a home video release as well, however no expected release date has been given for that at this time.
