Anime publisher Sentai Filmworks has today announced the acquisition of the classic OVA series, "Time Bokan: Royal Revival" for release in North America next year.
"Time Bokan: Royal Revival" is a 90s OVA of the "Time Bokan" science fiction, adventure anime series from the 1970s. "Royal Revival" is produced by the animation studio Tatsunoko Production (C - Control) and directed by Akira Shigino, with mecha designs by Kunio Okawara and character designs by Yoshitaka Amano, who you may remember from his work on the "Final Fantasy" series of games from Square Enix.
The OVA takes place as plans to remake the "Time Bokan" anime are being made, but with no sure way of deciding which of the many series will get the green light it is decided that the villains of "Time Bokan", "Yatterman", "Zenderman", "Otasukeman", "Yattodetaman", "Ippatsuman", and "Itadakiman" will be pitted against one another in a race to decide. It should be interesting to see who comes out on top as the born cheaters and saboteurs battle it out with one another to get the chance to get beat down by heroes once more.
Sentai Filmworks will release "Time Bokan: Royal Revival" on home video in 2014, no official release date has been given. The series will also be available through select digital outlets soon.
