Anime publisher Sentai Filmworks announced earlier today that it has acquired the magic-filled action/romance series “Magical Warfare” for release in North America.

“Magical Warfare” is based on the series of light novels written by Hisashi Suzuki and illustrated by Lunalia. The 12-episode anime series is produced by the legendary anime studio Madhouse (Highschool of the Dead) and it is directed by Yuzo Sato (Hunter X Hunter: Phantom Rouge). The anime also features series composition by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Princess Resurrection) and art direction from Jirou Kouno (Phi-Brain).

The story of “Magical Warfare” revolves around Takeshi Nanase, a student with a passion for Kendo, whose life doesn’t appear to be going his way as his parents are distant, his little brother seems to despise him and his so-called girlfriend isn’t all too interested in him romantically. Takeshi’s life is changed forever though, when he discovers an unconscious girl, Mui Aiba, and rushes to the rescue. Soon after rushing Mui to the infirmary he is attacked by a group of teens using magic. The realization that magic is real isn’t the only thing that blows Takeshi’s mind however, it turns out that he has also been turned into a magician.

“Magical Warfare” will be available through select digital outlets soon and Sentai Filmworks is planning for a home release to follow. No official release date has been given at this time.
