In an announcement today, anime publisher Sentai Filmworks revealed that it has acquired the supernatural romance series “Kamigami no Asobi” for release in North America.

“Kamigami no Asobi” is based on a visual novel from Nippon Ichi Software, and the anime adaptation features animation production from the studio Brains Base (Penguindrum). The anime series is directed by Tomoyuki Kawamura (Good Luck Girl!!) and includes series composition from Tomoko Kanparu (Nana) and character designs by Minako Shiba (Black Butler).

The series follows Yui Kusanagi, an ordinary high school girl who discovers a mysterious sword, which transports her to another world. Once in the strange new world, Yui meets the Greek god Zeus, who asks Yui to remain in his world and attend a school for young gods, where Zeus serves as headmaster. The bond between humans and the gods has weakened over time, and it is up to Yui to teach the gods about humanity and love.

“Kamigami no Asobi” will be available through select digital outlets soon. Sentai Filmworks also has plans for a home video release, but they have not given any details about that at this time.
