Each month AMC Theatres partners with The Autism Society to show a first-run family movie in an environment that is comfortable for special needs kids for their Sensory Friendly Films program. Instead of a dark, loud auditorium where viewers are expected to sit still and be quiet these showings have some house lights left on. The volume is turned down and people of all ages are permitted to walk around the theatre, talk and even bring in food that fits their special dietary needs. Films start at 10:00 am local time, and admission prices are reduced. The program started in one location in Maryland and has grown to be nationwide.
This month's Sensory Friendly Film is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 on October 5, 2013. The movie continues the adventures of inventor Flint Lockwood, his lab monkey Steve, Flint's father and other friends as they return to the scene of his giant food calamity to discover his machine is now inventing living food.
