Sensa, does it make sense?

Sensa is artificial flavor crystals that you sprinkle on your favorite foods that can allegedly "trick" your brain into thinking you're full. It’s the latest craze in the diet world. It's flying off the shelves at lightning speed and is a favorite among many young girls and women who want to sprinkle their way to slimness. The idea is if your brain is successfully fooled long enough, you will eat less and eventually lose weight. Sensa is an artificial "tastant" that is intended to work with your sense of smell, fooling your brain and stomach into thinking you're full. Hmm… I have an issue with this. They say with Sensa there are no restriction on the type of foods you eat. So presumably, you can eat pizza, burgers, French fries, soda and donuts and the weight will just glide off. Really? Even if that were true, with a diet like that it's only a matter of time before you develop something like elevated cholesterol , type II diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic inflammation, skin breakouts, liver problems and God knows what else!

There are currently no studies that prove the safety of this chemically induced "brain trickery" and what it will do to your body, especially your nervous system over the long term. And as far as the product's success rate goes with its intended purpose of helping you losing weight, the manufacturer's "weight loss evidence" is based on just a few company-sponsored studies. In my opinion that raises a red flag, those studies are not enough proof for me. Do you think it is worth offering yourself and your brain up as a guinea pig just to become a size 6? Doesn't sound like a fair tradeoff to me. As a matter of fact, Customer reviews of Sensa that I've seen are universally bad. So in the real world, after the commercial hype is over, the product simply doesn't deliver what they claim.

As consumers we need to stop trying and buying into gimmicks! Any weight loss program that expects you to eliminate food groups from your diet, starve yourself, eat only their processed meals or drink "shakes" or concoctions instead of eating food is the fast track to failure. Even if you do take off weight with Sensa, what happens when you stop deceiving your brain and start eating your "old way" again? You will gain all the weight back plus more.

If you are serious about losing weight and keeping it off and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the best way to go about it is not to trick your brain, but the tried and true way, eat real foods and exercise. The recipe to weight loss is simple, Eat real foods! At least half and preferably 70-80% of what you eat should be real foods. Nutrient dense foods are real foods. Real foods include fresh fruits, raw or lightly cooked vegetables, lean meats and poultry, fish, whole grains, and essential fats. When you eat real foods like these, your body can get nourished the way it needs to be. This has and always will be the tried and true way to take it off and keep it off. This is the way our grandparent's ate back in the days, before Big Food began their big push into our lives and our wallets. When you eat nutrient dense and real foods you will naturally get full faster and end up eating less overall, with no brain tricking necessary. Because you're properly nourished, you'll also naturally stay full and satisfied longer, so you won’t have any binging or late night snacking.

One more thing needs to be added and that is exercise. My advice is find an exercise you enjoy doing. If you like dancing try Zumba or a dance class, if you like to be in nature try hiking or kayaking, you don’t have to be locked up in a gym in order to exercise. Find what you like and you will always be motivated to do it. Without exercise you will only lose a certain amount of pounds then get stuck. Expecting to achieve or maintain a healthy body weight without exercise is like expecting your car to run on Gatorade. Remember, when it comes to taking off pounds and keeping them off, natural is best! When you give your body the natural healing food it's designed to have and exercise, you'll reap the benefits on the scale as well as help achieve peak health from head to toe. It is the way nature intended it to be.
