As the warm weather approaches, more and more active adults will be training for the Tennessee Senior Games this year.  Men and women 50 and over will participate in their favorite sports at the District Championships in April and May in Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, Crossville, and other cities across the State.  Some sports, such as volleyball and basketball, are already underway in league play in the local Knoxville area.

The Tennessee Senior Olympics is a nonprofit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles for seniors through fitness, sports, and an active involvement in life.  Seniors can participate in as many team sports and/or individual events as they like.  Age groups start at 50-54 and run in 5-year increments, so you can compete against those close to your age.

Those who participate in district events are eligible to compete in their sport or event in the State Games to be held in Williamson County in middle Tennessee from July 23-29, 2010.  This year is a qualifying year for the National Senior Games in Houston, TX from June 19-July 5, 2011.

Now is the time to start getting in shape and sharpening up for the spring competitions.  It's not too late to go for the gold!
