Dog lovers and the powers of social media did it again! In the eleventh hour, a senior dog named Alexis, whose sad brown eyes pleadingly poured out to us for her rescue just two days ago - even after her information was removed from the dogs available for adoption list - is now safe and curled up in a soft comfortable bed snoozing away in contentment.
Alexis, the 13-year-old dog who was dropped off at the high kill Downey shelter has been rescued by a So. California rescue on Thursday. Alexis had to be rushed to an emergency veterinarian for an ulcerated growth on her vulva, but is reported to be doing fine.
Now with a skilled foster, Alexis will be living a happy and secure life. A representative of the rescue,Wendy Simon, tells everyone on Facebook that Alexis never stops wagging her tail and is eating well.
If anyone has donated to help Alexis, please make sure you send in your pledge. The veterinarian bill for yesterday's surgery for Alexis was $600.
Many thanks to all of the animal advocates.
