Senior citizen lands dream job close to home

Tacoma Washington resident Murray Pallat just landed a brand new job.

Pallat, who is 88 years old, walked to the newly opened McLendon Hardware on North Pearl Street in Tacoma recently and asked the store manger for a job.

He was looking for a job close to his home so he could walk to work.

“I came out of retirement and waited for my dream job where I can walk to work. I have a large family that I help to support,” he told the News Tribune.

His career began in Brooklyn, NY at age 12.

Store manager Sandy Simmons said he hired Pallat on the spot.

The Renton based company threw open their doors to the 44,000 square foot building today at 7 a.m. They offer over 65,000 items with everything one would expect in a hardware store, plus a few others.

McLendon Hardware operates stores in Kent, Puyallup, Renton, Sumner, White Center and Woodinville. The new location also has two Blink charging stations for electric cars.
